About us

Organic Theatre was founded by Bianca Mastrominico and John Dean.

With many years of professional theatre experience behind us and after three years of artistic collaboration in Italy, in 2001 we moved to England and created an independent theatre organism: a new, flexible and open environment for our work.

Our devising is informed by a continuous cross-cultural exchange of practice, constant rigour in experimentation and a decision to not fall back on known techniques, as well as by a trust in the organic flow of our creativity in finding a theatrical logic within the paradoxes, incoherence and chaos of our working processes.

This leads us towards the development of a performer’s dramaturgy, the embodiment of originally devised characters and ultimately provokes the manifestation of process-led, contemporary, experimental and inspiring performances.

Why Organic

organic is

organicity in  performance, and the way in which life constantly inspires our creations, although our work is not necessarily autobiographical, or consciously self-therapeutic

a theatre like a house with transparent walls,

through which everybody can see our development as
human beings

unawareness of being creative

the need of a rituality that allows us to dance elastically between past, present and future

a theatre in which we can use our imagination as playfully as we want without losing the living truth of our actions

an understanding of how life can nurture and renew our work, so that through our work we can renew and nurture others lives

what moves the spectator: we are used to calling it
love, the beating heart of our theatre-organism, which works as a source and resource of creativity and openness

a quality which we must be able to convey as performers, over and above the techniques we use to build a piece

a risk taking, some times dangerous choice, as things can go rotten quickly in organic work

finally organic is

trusting an organic process not only in devising, writing, performing, organising and presenting our artistic identity, but also in the way we meet others through theatre
